TAM HARRINGTON | Fashion, a Complex Relationship (mixed media)
Illustrating the complex relationship between fashion and women’s oppression, exploitation, and empowerment, Tam Harrington uses recycled metal and plastics to create wearable metal art and sculptures. Each piece in this exhibition portrays a time period or a woman that influenced the artist and contributed to the empowerment of all women. All sculptures and wearable metal art are made from recycled or found metal or plastic items that are traditionally associated with the feminine.
Tam Harrington is an artist and educator living on the Sunshine Coast. She is a transdisciplinary artist whose practice includes installation art, research, collaboration, assemblage sculpture and painting, drawing, photography, ephemeral art, fiber arts, and performance. Her work breaks away from genres that define specific disciplines as we know them and blends knowledge and skill together to communicate a social message. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally. Harrington also holds a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art & Design and an Associate Diploma in Graphic Arts and Communications from Douglas College.
