CLAUDIA SAGEELE CUESTA & BILL BAKER | Parallels (mixed media)

A selection of artwork from the past 10 years that represents the artists’ journeys. Although different in materiality, Cuesta and Baker share in their art practice a passion for that which cannot be seen. Bill Baker looks at architectural structures and forms, creating works on paper with charcoals and oil pastels. The rich blacks and luminous colours, and the overlap of these colours with forms, creates a sense of connectivity, fluidity, and depth. Claudia Sageele Cuesta’s work is fluid and contemplative, based in three dimensional installation and performance art. Her current work builds on sensation, grappling with the embodiment of loss and grief to reveal a personal and shared experience using materials that activate an interplay of sensory engagement.

Cuesta is a practicing artist whose work has been exhibited in the UK, Columbia, Brazil, Italy, the USA, and across Canada. Bill Baker is an artist, trained architect, and residential designer whose artworks have been exhibited in Brazil and throughout BC. Baker and Cuesta have collaborated in their artistic practice since 2003. Both artists are now based on the Sunshine Coast, and this exhibition represents the first time they have shown their work together in our community.
