Artwork Sales/Donation Program

If you are a collector who wishes to downsize, make space for new treasures, receive a charitable tax receipt, or pass along your artwork so that a new person can enjoy it — or if you are an artist who needs to clear some space in your studio — consider supporting the Gibsons Public Art Gallery and our Artwork Sales/Donation Program.

Support our gallery and this program by purchasing one of the donated pieces. A new donated artwork will be on display regularly at GPAG, and you can also shop online! Plus, keep an eye out for future related events, including Silent Auctions, Live Auctions, and Appraisal Events.

When you donate a piece of art to this program, the proceeds from the sale of the work will go into our Friends of the Gallery Endowment Fund. Monies from this fund will support public art programming for future generations, through specific project goals such as our Building Repair Project. You can be assured that your artwork will find a home where it is loved, treasured, and proudly displayed, without having to go through the hassle and cost of getting it appraised and posting ads to find a suitable buyer. Best of all, your donation supports your local community and allows us to continue our work of fostering and promoting artistic creativity and learning, while serving as a cultural centre that unites art and community.

How does this work?

First, please read our Acquisitions Policy and fill out an Application Form.

Second, an adjudication panel, comprised of recognized local artists will review your application and will confirm that it is suitable for donation and sale.

Third, online sales will utilize the photo image supplied and you will retain the work. Artworks selected for display in the Gallery will be hung on a rotating basis for one-to-two months and displayed until sold (if your work is selected for display you will be asked to deliver the work to the Gallery).

Artworks will be sold at the price recommended by our adjudication panel, based on the condition of the artwork, the artist, the size, known sales of similar works, the provenance (if known) and the Fair Market Value Appraisal (if known).

Once the artwork is sold, the proceeds will go to our Friends of the Gallery Endowment Fund. You will then receive a charitable tax receipt for the amount of the donation.
