Reflecting the spiritual power of the forest and its crucial connection to us, Andrea Pratt’s exhibition Ecotherapy in the Eve Smart Gallery features abstract oil paintings exploring and reflecting on the sacred and intangible aspects of our local forest ecosystem. Drawing from personal experience, Pratt emphasizes how healing a connection to our local environment can be and how essential it is to our wellbeing. At a time when reflecting on the value of our connection to the earth is more important than ever, Pratt illustrates the intersections between our own very human health and the health of our ecosystem.
A visual artist living on the Sunshine Coast in the traditional territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Nation, Andrea Pratt’s primary inspiration is the natural world and the wild areas of British Columbia. After receiving a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the University of Victoria and a teaching certification from the University of British Columbia, Pratt spent many years working in the public school system in British Columbia, Greece, and the UK before returning to painting. Her unique visual language is a result of her creative detours experimenting in imagery, mediums, and techniques. This exhibition includes Pratt’s signature work, best described as a fusion of abstraction, folk art, and landscape, as well as a new series moving towards pure abstraction in her landscapes.
