There were Tigers and Deer
and slimy ~~~ SLUGS
BIRDS and Cats
and even Bear hugs!

We wrapped up the year with this juried, multi-medium exhibition of images – photography, painting, collage, sculpture – depicting all creatures great and small.

MACIEJ TOMCZAK | Phototramp

Travel photography becomes art through Tomczak’s skillful use of unusual perspectives and stunning play of natural light. This was a juried exhibition of images from around the world. Eleven people participated in Tomczak’s 2-Day Workshop: Your Travel Photography

ARTISTRY IN CLAY

This exhibit celebrated the B.C. Potters’ Guild 50th Anniversary with an exhibition that gathered together a stunning collection of works from nineteen gifted artists.

AARON BAGGIO | Pen and Ink

A one man exhibition featuring Baggio’s distinctive pen and ink illustrations. Many portraits and some landscapes were included in the collection for this exhibition. Baggio’s work is caught somewhere between abstraction and realism. One traditional pen and ink technique involves successive dots to build up darker tones; grainy textures and unexpected patterns in his pen and ink portraits are created with watercolors, acrylics, intricate line work, and digital assistance.

MIYUKI SHINKAI | Floats & Message Bottles

With mural paintings and blown glass floats reminiscent of traditional Japanese fishing floats often found on British Columbia’s coast, Langdale artist Miyuki Shinkai created an environment that draws on the shared natural beauty and values of her heritage and her home on Howe Sound. During the exhibition visitors were invited to write messages for the 200 unique blown glass bottles that were ceremoniously released into the Pacific at the end of the exhibition.

Report from Port Hardy:
Five of the 200 Message Bottles released off the West Coast of Vancouver Island by the Hungry One salmon troller in late September were found by a camper on Hecht Beach and Grant Bay. He wrote “I was over there camping – after some gale force winds so I was surprised that the bottles were intact.” Mr. Davidson is going to put the messages back into the bottles and send them off again with another crew. Watch for more news from Barkley Sound and the San Juan.

ED HILL |  My Beautiful British Columbia

In his personal notes artist Ed Hill writes: “I once read a prayer speaking about a parent watching and helping their children grow. The final line of that prayer is ‘And when they are grown, let me find the courage to let them go.’ Much like that prayer, it is now time for
 me to let my paintings go. Truly, it is difficult for me to do this, but it is time.”

Gibsons Public Art Gallery was proud to present, for the first time in twenty years, the extensive and substantial collection of Gibsons artist Ed Hill’s original acrylic paintings and other works for exhibition and sale.

LIGHT | An Exhibition of Photography

We saw more of the exceptional standard of photography we have seen in past exhibitions and received some creative interpretations of the theme ‘Light’ in this juried exhibition.

PINHOLE CAMERA INSTALLATION
The GPAG workroom overlooking Gibsons Harbour was converted into a walk-in pinhole camera. Photographer Daniel Bouman offered a series of experimental workshops in a lead-up to participation in Worldwide Pinhole Camera Day. The Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day is held each year on the last Sunday in April.

MEMBER ARTIST’S SHOW

The second annual exhibition to showcase the tremendous variety and talents of GPAG member artists. Works in all mediums – from folk art to paintings to photography – were included in this juried exhibition.

REVELATIONS 1 | Life and Limn

Revelations is a group of artists who have been meeting together or the past five years, painting and studying life drawing with the nude model. As each artist develops her own response to the challenge of painting the human figure what results is a collection of impressively distinct and unique images.

The Life & Limn group paints at the Sechelt Art Centre, another public art gallery on the Sunshine Coast.
